What Is This Test?

A blood test that detects the antigen (proteins of the organism itself) of dengue virus using the ELISA/EIA method.

Why this test is performed?

Helps diagnose dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral illness causing high fever, body ache and low platelets. A positive antigen test usually indicates a current infection.

Who should take this test?

Fever lasting more than 2–3 days, chills, body ache, rash, headache or vomiting — especially in monsoon season.

Test Preparation

No fasting needed.

Normal Range

The normal (expected) reference value for the Dengue NS1 Antigen ELISA test is Negative (Non-Reactive). In semi-quantitative or index-based ELISA assays, results are reported relative to a cut-off value: an Immune Status Ratio (ISR) or Panbio/Optical Density Index of less than 0.90 is interpreted as Negative (no detectable NS1 antigen), an index between 0.90 and 1.10 is considered Equivocal or Borderline, and an index greater than 1.10 is interpreted as Positive (Reactive, indicating acute dengue infection). Reference index cut-offs may vary marginally depending on the specific manufacturer's ELISA assay kit.
