Fructosamine measures glucose attached to blood proteins (mainly albumin). It reflects your average blood sugar over the previous 2–3 weeks.
Useful when HbA1c may be unreliable (anaemia, haemoglobin variants, pregnancy, recent blood loss) or to check short-term response after a change in diabetes treatment.
Excessive thirst, frequent urination, tiredness, slow-healing wounds, weight gain/obesity, family history of diabetes, adults over 30 and people with diabetes.
No fasting needed.
