What Is This Test?

Measures lead in a urine sample.

Why this test is performed?

Lead exposure (old paint, batteries, some traditional remedies, industrial work) can harm the brain, kidneys and blood, and is especially dangerous for children. A urine test shows how much is being passed by the kidneys.

Who should take this test?

Suspected exposure to metals at work, from water, cosmetics or traditional medicines, or unexplained nerve/kidney symptoms.

Test Preparation

No fasting needed. Give a first-morning, mid-stream urine sample in a sterile container.
