What Is This Test?

A blood test that measures IgG antibodies against bacteria and viruses that cause meningitis.

Why this test is performed?

Helps diagnose meningitis (infection of the brain coverings). IgG antibodies develop later and last longer, so a positive IgG usually indicates past infection or immunity (from infection or vaccination).

Who should take this test?

Neurological symptoms such as seizures, weakness, numbness or confusion — as advised by a neurologist.
