Measures metanephrines in urine collected over 24 hours. Metanephrines are breakdown products of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
The most sensitive tests for pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma — tumours that cause episodes of high blood pressure, palpitations, sweating and headaches. A 24-hour collection gives a more accurate picture of the total amount passed in a day than a single sample.
Symptoms suggesting hormonal imbalance — weight change, fatigue, BP changes, growth problems — usually as advised by a doctor.
No fasting needed. Collect all urine for 24 hours in the container provided (discard the first morning urine on day 1, include it on day 2).
