Gluconorm SR Tablet is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is used in addition to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Metformin is an anti-diabetic medication (biguanide). It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying sugar (glucose) absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Gluconorm SR Tablet is to be taken with food.

Alcohol Ask your doctor: Taking metformin with alcohol can cause lactic acidosis and you may experience malaise, respiratory distress, slow or irregular heartbeat, sleepiness, stomach upset, or other unusual symptoms.
Pregnancy Probably safe: Gluconorm SR Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.
Breastfeeding Probably safe: Gluconorm SR Tablet is probably safe to use during lactation. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent a significant risk to the baby.
Driving Ask your doctor: Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is low or high. If this happens, do not drive.
Kidney Caution: Gluconorm SR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Gluconorm SR Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Use of Gluconorm SR Tablet is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.
Liver Caution: Gluconorm SR Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Gluconorm SR Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.Gluconorm SR Tablet is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.
