What Is This Test?

A rapid multiplex PCR panel (BioFire) that detects the genetic material of many common gastrointestinal pathogens — viruses, bacteria and parasites/fungi — in a single test.

Why this test is performed?

Quickly identifies the cause of infectious diarrhoea, so the right treatment can be started early and unnecessary antibiotics avoided.

Who should take this test?

Fever, rash, jaundice, suspected exposure to infection, before surgery or pregnancy, as advised by a doctor.

Test Preparation

No fasting needed. Collect a fresh stool sample in the sterile container; do not mix with urine or water.
