What Is This Test?
A blood test that measures IgM & IgG antibodies against Brucella bacteria.
Why this test is performed?
Helps diagnose brucellosis, an infection from unpasteurised milk or contact with farm animals. IgM antibodies appear early, so a positive IgM usually suggests a recent or current infection. IgG antibodies develop later and last longer, so a positive IgG usually indicates past infection or immunity (from infection or vaccination).
Who should take this test?
Fever lasting more than 2–3 days, chills, body ache, rash, headache or vomiting — especially in monsoon season.
