Measures thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), made by the pituitary gland to control the thyroid. It is the most sensitive single test of thyroid function.
Screens for and monitors hypothyroidism (high TSH) and hyperthyroidism (low TSH), helps adjust thyroxine dose, and is checked in pregnancy, infertility, weight change, fatigue and hair loss.
Tiredness, weight gain or loss, hair fall, feeling cold or hot, irregular periods, anxiety/palpitations, infertility or pregnancy planning.
No fasting is needed. If you take thyroid medicine, give the sample before your daily dose (ideally in the morning) unless your doctor advises otherwise.
